Carrie B., with nearly 15 years of sobriety shares how she transformed from a reluctant newcomer to a dedicated AA member. Growing up, she struggled with self-centeredness and resistance to authority, traits that carried into her drinking and early sobriety. Initially, she rejected the traditions, fellowship, and even the idea of a home group, believing she knew best. After multiple failed attempts to control her drinking, she hit a low point in her second year of sobriety, realizing she needed AA more than it needed her. Through service, sponsorship, and finding a true home group, she built a stable life, even navigating challenges like divorce and single motherhood. Today, she is committed to ensuring AA remains strong for future generations, embracing the traditions and principles that once frustrated her.
